Charity Spotlight: RAHAB Ministries

Providing Hope, Healing, and Christ-Centered Support for Survivors of Sex Trafficking

At Enza Financial, we believe in supporting organizations that are making a meaningful impact in our communities. This quarter, we are honored to highlight RAHAB Ministries, a Northeast Ohio nonprofit dedicated to walking alongside women who have been impacted by sex trafficking and exploitation. For more than 20 years, RAHAB Ministries has been offering hope, connection, and Christ-centered support to women and minors who are often overlooked, misunderstood, or hidden in plain sight.

A Mission Rooted in Compassion and Presence

Rahab Ministries

RAHAB Ministries was founded by Becky Moreland, a woman who recognized that women in her community were vulnerable to exploitation and lacked safe, supportive relationships. Becky began by simply showing up, visiting streets and local strip clubs, offering kindness, prayer, and connection. Sometimes that meant handing out a small slip of paper with her phone number and letting women know someone cared. What started with one person has grown into an outreach of relationship-based ministry that continues that same mission today: to provide Christ-centered, transformational services for individuals directly affected by sex trafficking.

Meeting People Where They Are

A core part of RAHAB’s work is Outreach. This is made up of teams of trained staff and volunteers who go into strip clubs, streets, and jails to connect with women experiencing exploitation. These encounters are not about pressure or requirements, but about building trust and offering consistent support. Over time, RAHAB expanded its services to include Drop-In Homes in Akron and Canton. These non-residential, daytime spaces offer a safe and welcoming environment where women can receive clothing, hygiene items, meals, Bible study, art therapy, and community outings. RAHAB operates with an open-door policy, so there is no need for referrals, prerequisites, or barriers to entry.

“This is what makes RAHAB unique,” shared Bethany, Director of Development. “We meet women exactly where they are, wherever they are in their journey, and build trust over time.”

RAHAB has also expanded its reach to serve minors through a specialized mentoring program developed in collaboration with juvenile courts. This program supports teenagers who are being trafficked and operates across Summit, Stark, and Cuyahoga counties. Every service RAHAB provides is grounded in long-term, relationship-based care.

Understanding the Reality of Trafficking

One of the greatest challenges RAHAB faces is the widespread misunderstanding of sex trafficking. Many people imagine kidnapping scenarios, but in the U.S., trafficking more often involves grooming and manipulation. This could look like targeting vulnerable individuals, isolating them, and creating emotional and financial dependence. In Ohio alone, an estimated 29,000 people are trafficked each year, yet only 1% of survivors are ever identified nationally. On average, it takes a woman seven attempts to fully leave a trafficker, which shows the complexity of emotional, financial, and sometimes substance-related dependencies individuals face. January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month, a reminder that this issue exists in our communities and requires awareness, compassion, and action.

Restoring Dignity and Hope

RAHAB’s approach emphasizes dignity and worth. Whether it’s women “shopping” for clothing at no cost in a thoughtfully designed space, praying with someone in a strip club, or creating art together, every interaction is meant to reinforce one powerful truth: each person is worthy of a different life and a hopeful future. One beautiful example of this is a mosaic art piece displayed in RAHAB’s Akron Drop-In Home. Created by a local artist, the mosaic began as blank squares. Each woman contributed her own piece without knowing what the final image would be. Revealed at Easter, the mosaic is now a visual testament to healing, individuality, and the beauty God creates through each woman’s story.

How the Community Can Help

RAHAB Ministries relies on the generosity of individuals and businesses to continue its work. Support can take many forms:

  • Financial donations through their website or by check
  • Donations of new, full-size hygiene items (such as shampoo, conditioner, and body wash)
  • Volunteering, especially for outreach teams, after completing training

Bethany also shared a meaningful example of recent community support through RAHAB’s first-ever Christmas toy drive. The event was designed to bring joy and dignity to women and families who often face added challenges during the holiday season. In total, more than 90 children received Christmas gifts, many for the first time. The toy drive created a joyful atmosphere and offered women the opportunity to experience the pride and normalcy of providing for their children during the holidays. Due to the positive response and impact of this event, RAHAB hopes to make the Christmas toy drive an ongoing tradition in the years ahead, continuing to create moments of hope, dignity, and connection for the women and families they serve.

A Message for the Enza Financial Community

“This is a heavy topic,” Bethany shared, “but there are people all around us who are being victimized by trafficking. Any one of us can’t end this alone, but every one of us can do something.” Whether through education, conversation, volunteering, or giving, each action helps support survivors and reduce exploitation in our communities. We’re grateful to RAHAB Ministries for the life-changing work they do every day and for reminding us that compassion, presence, and hope can truly transform lives.
